Mercury goes both ways

...and so does Gemini ♊️

Today, to lighten up, I turn to Mercury, which is almost always a good choice. If it hasn't occurred to you yet, you can always learn more about planetary functions by reading about the Roman or Greek gods for which they were named, so in this case Mercury and Hermes, respectively. (Getting yourself some random facts about Mercury is the perfect way to honor him, really.)

Mythological Mercury was male, as well as a trickster god, and amoral. He'd mostly do what worked best for him in the moment, and shrug off consequences. He's usually depicted as young. Liz Greene (the astrologer) refers to Mercurial people as the purer eternus, or eternal youth. Of course, he rules Gemini, and you may find some people with strong Gemini in your midst who display these properties.

The thing I am focusing in on today about Mercury, mercurial people, and Gemini generally, is they don't like to rule out options. To commit to one thing means that they're missing out on something else. They don't like that. Tell them about something they can't have and they can't do and they squirm around because they're missing out on information or an experience or an option. This applies to almost everything.

Sky Mercury has no gender, by the way. It's colored by whatever aspects it makes, which is perfect. The sun and Mars are very obviously male; the moon and Venus are obviously female. Mercury's neutral. If you think about it, it makes sense. Most information doesn't have a gender, unless it's Women's Wear Daily or Men's Health, and Mercury’s about the circulation of information, so why should it have to decide?

My Aquarian side comes out most obviously when I'm talking about or thinking about how people live their lives, so hold on to your butts: I don't care what people are doing as long as they're not hurting other people. I used to passively not care, and now I actively walk away from things that seem dramatic that I don’t want to know more about.

Having said that, I am of the personal opinion that Gemini is the gayest sign in the zodiac due to the genderlessness and open-mindedness of Mercury, which rules Gemini. Does that mean all Gemini sun signs are gay? (Fuck) No. Fun fact: I read a very weird book that was written decades ago about the astrology of sexuality, that told me that Mars making harsh aspects to Neptune and/or Uranus meant gayness, and I thought the book and the information in it were trash. No planet in a sign or specific aspect sentences you to anything, ever. It just ups the probability that certain stereotypical things are true, but the energy in question can manifest in a variety of different ways. That said, and based on observation over time, it seems to be having the moon in Gemini that ups the probability of bisexuality (the moon is about comfort zones, after all), and to a lesser extent, Venus, and that’s as far as I’m willing to go on the topic. But Gemini’s inherent properties make it the gayest sign in the zodiac (which, to be very clear, I think is a positive thing), because Gemini is comfortable with ambiguity and accepting of all walks of life when that energy is expressing properly. However you show up is who you are in Gemini’s world, and no binding decisions are necessary, nor are judgments rendered. THAT’S GREAT. We need more of that.

To respect Mercury’s inherent properties, I will accept arguments to the contrary if you want to make a strong case that there’s a gayer sign than Gemini. Also: I definitely didn’t just say all Gemini moons are bisexual, it’s just…more probable (it’s most probable that they have commitment issues, because…see above). I also didn’t say that you don’t get to be gay if you have no Gemini energy.

I like that Pride month begins when the sun is in Gemini and ends when it's in Cancer. It's kind of perfect. It's about open-mindedness (Gemini section) and acceptance (Cancer part), right? From an astrology perspective, I don’t think it can get less complicated than that.
